Sports have always been a big part of Rick’s life. Born and raised in Bessemer, Alabama, Rick attended The University of Alabama on a football scholarship where he played under legendary coach Paul Bryant. During his four years at Alabama, the football team won four Southeastern Conference championships and one national championship and, following his senior season in 1974, Rick and Sylvester Croom were elected permanent co-captains by their teammates. Rick was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1975 and after playing in the NFL for four years, Rick attended and graduated from Cumberland School of Law (December 1982). In 1983 former Alabama teammate Robert Fraley and Rick formed a law firm in Orlando where a large part of their work involved college and professional sports – Ray Perkins was the firm’s first coach client when Coach Perkins followed Coach Bryant as the head football coach at Alabama. For over 30 years Rick has continued to represent college and professional football and basketball head coaches, coordinators, assistant coaches and administrators all over the country, advising them on career moves, helping to maximize potential opportunities in the marketplace, and handling all aspects of clients’ employment and endorsement agreements.
Rick is the editor of Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff & Brandt Coaches’ Cornerblog which provides legal and business insights as well as sporting highlights and memories from the coaching industry, and is a frequent speaker at sporting industry events and seminars.
