Kimberly R. West's Profile
Kim West joined Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff & Brandt in 1997. She practices primarily in the areas of pharmaceutical and mass tort litigation, ERISA and state law subrogation, federal appellate litigation, and constitutional law. Kim has served and serves as lead counsel to Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in national multi-district cases involving drug injury and overpricing.
Kim is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the federal district courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama, and all Alabama state courts. She is a member of the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association.
A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Kim was born in 1957. She attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, in 1975. She graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. After teaching for a year in the Alabama public school system, Kim attended the University of Alabama School of Law. She was on the editorial board of the Alabama Law Review, received several book awards, and earned her J.D. degree in 1983.
After graduation from law school, Kim served one year as a law clerk to the Honorable Frank M. Johnson, Jr., judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. From 1984 to 1986, she practiced general civil and criminal law as an associate with the Birmingham law firms of Thomas, Taliaferro, Foreman, Burr & Murray and Parker & Dawson. In 1986, Kim started a general solo practice, with an emphasis on federal and state appellate litigation and served as a Medicare Hearing Officer. In 1991, she formed the partnership of Scofield, West & French and practiced there until joining Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff & Brandt.
In addition to practicing law, Kim received a Master’s of Arts in English Literature in 2011 from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. She teaches, researches and writes in the area of Shakespeare and performance, specifically Shakespeare and Trial Advocacy. She is a member of the Shakespeare Association of America.
